I was to appear at Magistrate Court II in a matter that was coming up that morning between C.O.P VS NOSA IGIEHON. Meanwhile I have another matter that same morning at High Court 1 which was not going on because the court is not sitting. So I rushed to High Court 1 to see if I could take a date with counsel on the other side. Before I got back to the Magistrates Court II, EFCC had arrested my client who is the Defendant in the matter and taken him to “A” Division, Warri. Infact I was informed by the Prosecutor and the I.P.O from Zone 5 that he was forcefully taken from the court by the EFCC officials. Being a counsel in the matter and owing to the fact that my client tried frantically to get access to me on phone while being forcefully taken away, I took the case file fo...

PRESIDENTIAL DECLARATION OF JUNE 12 AS DEMOCRACY DAY, IYC SAYS DECLARATION COMMENDABLE BUT SAYS BUHARI SHOULD RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA NOW The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide has described the declaration of June 12 as Democracy day in Nigeria as commendable. The IYC says that the declaration is commendable considering the historical role of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election to the struggle for democratic rule in Nigeria. In the opinion of the IYC, the earlier May 29 democracy day was a product of the June 12 struggle hence the later date more appropriately qualifies to be known and observed as democracy day. However, the IYC has called on President Buhari to take further steps to address the key principles of the June 12 struggle by restructuring the country on the path of true federalism where the federating units would be the engine room to drive development. In the opinion of the IYC, the June 12 struggle was more than attainment of democratic rule but the achievement of a soc...
